"New Tablet PC seen at MGMA Show"

Learn More about the Tablet PC, below:

Tablet PCs will be among the most capable mobile computing devices ever made, with long battery life, thin ergonomic designs, built-in wireless capability, and a lightweight form factor.

The Tablet PC will run a specialized version of Microsoft's Windows XP operating system. This version will have all of the features of Windows XP Professional and some additional features that are specific to the Tablet PC. All existing Windows software applications will run on Tablet PCs.

The Tablet PC adds the functionality for users to run Windows applications using a pen, annotate documents, and create handwritten documents using electronic ink for later reference or even conversion into text. Just like today's portable PCs, Tablet PCs can be placed into a docking station at a desk to support a large monitor, network connection, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals.

The Tablet PC platform will be more than just a new portable computer. The addition of both ink and speech as data sources for these devices means that new peripherals and software solutions will emerge. These new solutions will extend the computing platforms in ways not easily replicated by mainstream notebook computers or handheld devices. Examples of these new solutions include signature authentication for document binding and paperless workflow, microphones for medical dictation directly into a Tablet PC, electronic whiteboard software that allows the Tablet PC to be an input device to a projector for real-time digital whiteboard usage, and many others.
